The Three R's
The current school educational system is very good at delivering knowledge to those students motivated to learn, but sadly the love and desire for learning for an increasing number of students has been lost. Disenfranchised students often use negative behaviors to get attention. For affected students, this can result in behavioral problems, substance misuse, mental illness, truanting, bullying and social exclusion. Students often attack the very communities set up to teach and guide them in learning - reflected in increasing discipline problems in schools and society as a whole. Many of these individuals have no awareness of their feelings or the effect of their behavior on others - they have lost self-respect - the ability to understand and evaluate the effect on other people of their behaviors - the concept that every 'right' has a concommitant 'responsibility'.
Successful Education
A successful educational approach needs to address the respect issues both in the home and school environment. The Mind Kind Way is an holistic approach that considers the social and emotional aspects of learning and skills of emotional literacy are integrated with academic literacy. The practices taught are suited to everyone regardless of perceived intelligence. Students learn how to use their brain, how to understand and control their states productively and how to communicate effectively. The methods tap into the mystery of human response and define what it means to be human. Nothing is taught in isolation - students are tutored into always working with 'the big picture' - students learn from the start they do not live in isolation, but belong to and are a valuable part of the society they live in. Students learn self-respect and self-discipline.
To enable continuity of education, the software is sold with an annual license that allows the software to be used by teachers and students both in the school environment and on personal pc's at home.
